About Us
In 1993 COCAITH applied to the Department of Family Services and Aboriginal Affairs,
through the Domestic Violence Initiative Program, for recurrent funding to establish
a Domestic Violence Resource Service in Townsville to service both Townsville and
Mount Isa
Funding for the service was approved in 1994, and the North Queensland Domestic Violence
Resource Service came into being and began formal operations in June of that year.
In 1999 the NQDVRS took on an extra office in Mount Isa
Aim of the Service
Our aim is to conduct a service in the North Queensland region which provides direct
support services, community education, training for service providers and co-ordination
of domestic and family violence responses, that actively promotes and enhances the
safety of those involved in domestic and family violence.
Our Organisation
We provide a variety of programs to support those who have suffered from the effects
of Domestic and Family Violence.
We work closely with other women's services in Townsville such as The Women's Centre
(North Queensland Combined Women's Services), Flora House and Sera's Women's Shelter.
NQDVRS has links with a wide range of local and state services working in partnership
to provide effective help for the people who use our service"
